Yahoo! News - U.S. Marines Say Readying for Final Assault in Najaf

Ok. The "final" assault? Whose idea was this? The final assault for how long? Are we going to kill everyone in the city? Or just fighting age men, or what? I've the sneaking suspicion that this insurgency isn't going to end without either A) prosperity, security and independence for Iraq or B) genocide. It's pretty clear that al-Sadr is going to remain a problem since we've made him our problem, so to some extent confrontation here is inevitable. So, assault away guys, you're already there. But at some point we're going to have to realize that "the terrorists" or "the insurgents" are not a finite groups. You can shoot them, blow up their houses, wound and imprison their families, and take over their countries, and they can keep recruiting. The idea of the "final assault" and further the fact that someone somewhere thinks that that makes a modicum of sense scares the hell out of me.
